At Hull, we work exclusively with vegetable-tanned cowhide leather—a material chosen not only for its durability, but for the way it evolves. This is leather that responds to touch, movement, and time. It carries the marks of use, softens with wear, and develops a depth of character that is entirely your own.

Our leather is a form of pull-up leather, meaning it has been finished with natural oils and waxes that allow the surface to shift and lighten when bent or handled. This gives each bag a dynamic quality—one that reflects the rhythm of everyday use. Over time, the leather deepens in tone, forming a rich patina that tells your story.

Because of this natural process, no two pieces are ever identical. Variations in grain, tone, and markings are not imperfections, but part of the material’s honesty.

Caring for your Hull bag is simple. The leather is designed to be lived with, not preserved in perfection. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight, as this can affect the surface and structure over time. If your bag becomes wet, gently pat it dry with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry naturally—never apply direct heat.

For everyday care, a soft dry cloth is often enough to maintain the surface. Light scuffs or marks, common with pull-up leather, can usually be eased by gently rubbing the area with your fingers or a cloth, allowing the natural oils to redistribute. This is part of the leather’s character and will settle over time.

To maintain suppleness, apply a small amount of natural leather conditioner every few months. This nourishes the leather and supports the development of an even patina. When not in use, store your bag in a breathable dust bag, allowing the leather to rest without trapping moisture. Avoid plastic storage, as leather needs to breathe.

With time, your Hull bag becomes softer, deeper in tone, and more personal. It is not just something you carry—it becomes something that carries your story.
